How to Vote for Linda at the Democratic Nominating Convention

On June 2, 2007 the Charlottesville City Democrats will hold a Convention at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center (at Charlottesville High School) for the purpose of nominating three (3) candidates for the City Council General Election in November. Only Charlottesville residents are eligible to vote at the Convention.

To be chosen as one of the Democratic candidates at the Convention, I need your support! Here is a brief description of the process:

  • Arrive at the Convention as early as possible. The doors to the Convention Hall will open at 12:15 p.m. and will be closed promptly at 1 o'clock and no one else will be allowed to enter. Be sure to come well before 1:00 pm as it will take a few minute to get registered as you enter the hall.
  • When you arrive you will be asked to sign a Declaration Form indicating that you believe in the principles of the Democratic Party and that you do not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the November election.
  • At the meeting there will be speeches nominating the candidates and the candidates themselves will speak.
  • Each precinct will caucus with participants casting a vote for each of the three candidates of their choice.
  • Sometimes a second ballot is needed.
  • You should plan on spending about 2 hours at the Convention.
Anyone needing a ride to the Convention should call Linda Seaman at 973-8753, or Maria Chapel at 977-5759. Please leave your name, address and phone number, and someone will contact you to make arrangements.
(Charlottesville High School is not on a CTS bus route.)
